Koi

We produce several distinct lines / qualities of koi. This is reflected in the pricing. In general the colour of koi develops greater depth as the fish grows older. Certainly first year fish up to 4 inches will develop colour much more during the next years of its life. The quality of all fish continues to improve and many individuals develop into really stunning fish.

Selected Koi - 2 year old fish from 6-12 inches

These fish are the best fish selected from the first year stock. We like to produce a wide range of colour to provide a pleasing mix. We don’t pretend these will compete with Japanese grade A fish, but they have fantastic colours, a lovely body shape will be strong, healthy, and are keenly priced.

Standard grade – 1 - 2 year old fish from 3 – 12 inches.

Mixed colours a lower grade than the selects, but a good range of colour particularly with the smaller sizes.

'C' grade pondfillers - 1 year old 2 – 4 inches

Cheap and cheerful. Not good enough to make the standard grade, but cheap enough to tempt customers that want really bargain koi for their pond. These always sell out quickly at the beginning of the season.

Ogons - Ever popular yellow ogons can be bought in a variety of sizes as a pure mix. A small percentage are also mixed in with the standard grade mentioned above.

Shusui - These fish are also bred and sold separately. Although distinctive when small they are really at their best when they reach 6 inches in length when the dark blue of the scales contrasts vividly with the light blue skin tones.

Ghosts

Not a lot orf people know that ghost koi are a British invention. They were produced by accident in the early 80’s when a farmer mixed a koi with a carp and produced fish with some metallic highlights on their head and fins. Our ghosts production techniques are now more refined. We have a special line of broodstock that we cross with particular koi. The result is a stunning metallic fish that is friendly and extremely robust. We also produce a percentage with butterfly fins.

Goldfish

Goldfish are the most popular fish sold in the UK and accounts for at least 75% of all ornamental fish sold across the counter. We produce a deep red goldfish that we describe as ‘traditional’ English. Much deeper coloured than the imported stock and very much healthier. We sell fish from 2 – 6 inches in size. We also mix in a small percentage of a red and white variety

Tench
